Climbing Kili

Cold beauty, majesty beyond words. Kilimanjaro looms over Tanzania, taunting the town of Moshi. Its tourists bullied onto its steep paths with promises of an easy climb and a tale to tell. Sitting its shadow Moshi is unlike any other African town. Its streets, potholed and littered, the buildings random and unfinished. In the mid-day heat the snow sat atop of Kili almost looks inviting. Walking through the town, with the usual mix of market stalls and beggars, you will notice a high proportion of Mountain Hiking companies, for this is Kili territory and the only reason to set foot in Moshi is to set foot on Kilimanjaro.
Climbing any mountain is no easy task. Its highest peak lingers impossibly tall at 19,000 ft. The dense jungles, sit smouldering and wet on its shoulders. The desert, so cold for its rocky appearance and relenting weather sit between the climbers and victory.Although you will not have to actually ‘climb’ Kili, you will feel pain. Pain and exhaustion. Bloody blisters, feet throbbing ten times the size of the shoe they contain.
